Wilco - Poor Places

I watched I Will Break Your Heart and have to admit that I didn’t really get the movie or the band (at the time). However, there were moments of brilliance, like this montage showing the development of the song ‘Poor Places’.

One of the key points of the movie is the creative tension between the star of Wilco, Jeff Tweedy, and the annoying, but clearly troubled and brilliant Jay Bennett. It is obvious that Jay had a lot to do with the sounds and success of ‘Yankee Foxtrot Hotel’. At the same time, you could see a pattern emerging that had probably happened before in Jay’s life. He tends to alienate the people around him, despite his contributions. After Jay was fired, he sank into oblivion (sadly documented in the movie), while Wilco blew up to a major musical force.

Mr. Bennett died this week at age 45.
